Puppy Doe's Story

To say the Puppy Doe was rescued is not entirely
true. The fact is that she found us, on Christmas Eve 1993. She
was very small at the time only about ten weeks old, too small to climb
the stairs. It is our theory, that Doe was going to be a
Christmas present for someone, but at the last moment was abandoned in
the nearby park. She was named Puppy Doe such as a unknown person
would be called a John or Jane Doe.
The idea being that if we did not name the dog
we would not become attached and could bring her to the SPCA after
Christmas. That idea didn't work, twelve years have passed and she is
still going strong. Although we are not hunters it still amazes
me that if we out for a hike, she can pick up the scent of a rabbit and
run, run, run. As far as being loyal, if we were to leave her on the
shore while we went canoeing, she would swim
across the pond to catch up.
