They needed each other

My 4yr.old beagle named Baxter was rescued
from a puppy mill, and was so frightened when I took out a leash, he
would cower in a corner until I put it on him and brought him out. He
also suffers from severe separation anxiety, (he peed in the house on a
regular basis), so bad that a behaviorist told me to buy a crate and he
would be ok...not so; he peed and had severe diarrhea in his crate that
the roof and walls were covered in it. I again consulted with the
behaviorist, and he said the only thing that might work is to get him a
friend.
So off to the SPCA, I found Cassie, a super hyperactive 1yr.old beagle
who had been abused, abandoned 3x in one year to the SPCA, and literally
in their eyes a hopeless case. Well, I brought the little girl home, if
you moved too fast, she would run for cover, it was so obvious that she
had been mistreated. One of the last owners, said that she was
destructive and ate furniture and didn't listen. The hopeless case
turned out to be the sweetest dog in the world. She is pretty well
trained and she no longer cowers.
As for my Baxter, he has not peed in the
house since the day we got her, and she has never once been destructive
in my house...they needed each other!!
