Page of ShameBeagles

In the province of Newfoundland and Labrador thousands of Beagles live in unfit conditions.  The animal control regulations both on a municpal level and provincial level are out-dated and inadequate.

We need to be the voice for these neglected beagles.  It is time that these regulations are revised to allow for adequate housing for outdoor dogs.  It is no longer acceptable that beagles should be allowed to be housed in raised pens with wire bottoms.  Beagles are not second class dogs they deserve better !

Visit our "Page of Shame" to view photos of beagles around our province living in unfit conditions.

Time for Change !outdoor beagle

Recently a Beagle Paws Volunteer and freelance writer "Darrin McGrath" brought attention to the need for change with the City of St. John's animal regulations by writing a letter to the Editor or the Telegram...

"I am writing concerning the City’s plan to amend municipal animal protection laws. I commend such action and I encourage the Mayor and Council to avoid half-measures when revamping the la
ws. As a beagle owner and hunter, I sincerely hope the City brings in tough new by-laws to govern the abuse/neglect of beagles and I would like to make some recommendations."

What Ever Happened to Holly?

female beagle

Some of you may remember "Holly" a lovely rescued beagle from the Clarenville SPCA last summer.

Holly spent months on the run and ran away from everyone who tried to help her.  Eventually she was captured along with a litter of puppies.

The months that Holly spent living on the run made her less than sociable.  Luckily a great dog trainer "Tonji Stewart" with Canine Company stepped in to help Holly and took her into her own home.  Holly eventually won the hearts of Tonji's family and they soon realized that Holly had found a place in their family forever.  Holly now answers to the name of "Elie" in her new home.

4th Annual "For the Love of Beagles" Silent Auction & Chocolate Buffet

Valentine

A GREAT SUCCESS

For the 4th year in the row our Silent Auction has turned out be a great success.

We would also like to thank our entertainment for the evening as well as our guest host Leanne Sharpe of Hits 99.1 FM.

Dog Trapped

On December 28th Marian Andrews and her beloved Bassett mix "Max" were enjoying a beautiful winters walk which quickly turned ugly.  Max ventured to his favorite watering hole for a drink when Marian discovered his head was caught in a Mink trap.  She sacrificed everything to get her beloved Max out of this trap which resulted in her getting caught herself. After finally freeing the trap from its restraint she ran trap and all to a local home where she received help right away.  Max who had ran away from the scene scared and confused was found by a local neighbor and Marian and Max were soon reunited.

The traps were set in close proximity to a community that any pet or even child could have come in contact with.  (Stephenville,NL)

Well it is true !  Beagles are pack animals and enjoy the company of other dogs, especially other Beagles.
