URGENT Help needed for “Kallie”

UPDATE – June 9: It is with a heavy heart that we have to tell you that little Kallie did not make it through the weekend.
This is the message from the Tri Lake Animal Hospital in Kelwona, British Columbia…
We investigated via cholangiography of Kallie’s gall bladder, a technique of injecting dye into the gall bladder and taking a series of x-rays. The radiographs were then sent to a radiologist as they appeared to show evidence of gall bladder disease. The radiologist agreed that gall bladder disease was present which was highlighted by the dye technique as it would not be visible during surgery.
Unfortunately this means that Kallie’s prognosis is not good; even if we went in to surgery for the 2nd time to repair the small leak there is a very strong likelihood that Kallie would develop another leak in the next couple of months and this would continue as the disease took its course.
With much consultation with the animal hospital a decision was made to end Kallie’s suffering and she has now crossed the rainbow bridge.
The vet bill for her care this past week is quite high but we have given those who donated the option for a refund on their donation.
Kallie is just 10 months old and she seriously injured herself when she fell off a piece of furniture. The vet has determined that she has ruptured a duct in her liver that drains bile from the liver into the intestine. Unfortunately, the bile is leaking into her abdominal cavity. The condition is known as a bile peritonitis. Surgery is required to save her.
Post op surgical support will require 24 hour care for up to a week post-op. Plasma transfusions are required as well. Her prognosis is good if the surgery goes well.
UPDATE JUNE 7: The surgery to repair Kallie’s ruptured bile duct was done Tuesday June 4th. The surgery was difficult because the bile duct tear was in an area that the hepatic duct joins up with the bile duct forming a “y”. Kallie is recovering nicely from the surgery with 2 drains placed in her abdomen to facilitate the removal of any remaining bile in her abdomen.
She is doing well and eating. She will be monitored closely, 24 hours a day, through the weekend. If the bile duct begins to leak again, a second surgery may be required. We should know either way in the next 2-3 days.
Thank you to everyone who donated, we will have to wait and see if little Kallie makes it through the weekend.
Kelowna British Columbia.
THANK YOU to the following people who have donated to help Kallie:
J. Monti, T. Nguyen, J. Inguaggiato, D. Rae, S. Meza, T. Paris, M. Bosk, L. Parker, M. Wainwright, M. Gelfand, B. Brown, M. Eakin, K. Hawley, J. Dittaro, A. Affleck
