Soft Doggie Cookies
2 jars (4.5oz) baby food (beef for chicken)
1/4 cup powdered milk
1/4 cup wheat germ

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Combine ingredients in bowl and mix well. (If mixture is too wet, add more wheat germ)
3. Mixture should be sticky so that you can roll it into small balls.
4.
Place on well-greased cookie sheet and flatten with a fork (cookie cutters can be used).
5. Bake the biscuits for 15 minutes or until browned.

Cool on wire rack and STORE IN REFRIGERATOR.  These cookies can also be frozen. 


Beagle Treats
1 cup all purpose flour
1 cup whole-wheat flour
1/2 cup powdered milk
1/2 cup wheat germ
3 tsp. vegetable shortening
1/2 tsp. brown sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 cup water
1 tsp. green food coloring
egg 
1 tsp. chopped fresh mint (optional)

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Coat a large cookie sheet with nonstick cooking spray.
2. In a large bowl, combine both flours, the wheat germ, powdered milk, shortening, brown sugar and salt. mix until crumbly.
3. In a small bowl, combine water and food coloring, mix well. Add flour mixture along with the egg and mint. Mix well.
4. On a lightly floured surface, knead the dough until smooth. Using a rolling pin, roll to a 1/2 inch thickness. Using a wreath or dog-shaped cookie cutter or knife, cut out biscuits and place on the cookie sheet.
5. Bake the biscuits for 25 to 30 minutes or until browned around the edges. Remove to a wire rack to cool completely.

VETERINARY TIP:  Before giving these to your dog, make sure you're aware of any allergies he or she may have to wheat, eggs, dairy products or any of the other ingredients!


Beagle Bones

3 tbsp. soup stock (vegetable, chicken or beef)
2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1/2 cup skim milk powder
1 tsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1/4 cup margarine
egg white
1/2 cup cold water (approx.)

Combine all dry ingredients together. Cream margarine and add egg white; blend. Gradually add dry mixture to creamed mixture, alternately with cold water, using hands to blend as mixture will become too heavy for mixer. Knead for 3 minutes. Form into a ball. Roll 1/2-inch thick; cut with bone-shaped cookie cutter. Lightly grease cookie sheet. Bake at 325 degrees F. for 30 minutes 

Yield: 1 batch made 41 bones (24 small and 17 large)
