Please help us help Timmy
Timmy
is a 10 month old Beagle cross pup who came to us in March with what
appeared to be a severe eye infection. He has since been diagnosed
with Micropthalmia, a serious congenital eye defect that often
results in blindness. This condition means that his eyes are
abnormally small, sunken, and the third eyelid is swollen to such an
extent that it practically covers his pupils. Timmy appears to be
completely blind in his right eye and has minimal vision in his
left. He can see straight ahead for a short distance, but has very
little peripheral vision. Because his eyes are malformed and
sunken, he has continual eye infections and inflammation. Timmy
may very well become completely blind. But the bigger issue is
finding a way to give him relief from the swelling and terrible
discomfort he is experiencing. Only daily antibiotic drops are
keeping the condition manageable at this point. We can only
imagine the suffering he must have gone through during his first 9
months.
Timmy's
future is bleak. Without costly medical intervention, he will be
forever plagued with swelling and pain in his eyes. And even with
the best of medical care, his vision cannot be fully restored. We
are sure that if Timmy could talk he would tell us that his life has
lots of quality despite his condition, and that he'd like to live for
many more years. He'd tell us how he loves running in the yard,
chasing his tail, and shaking his stuffed Barney senseless. He'd
say he loves nothing better than walks around the neighborhood, sniffing
the Spring air, and cuddling up on the couch at the end of an active day
with his wonderful foster Mom.
We
are in the process of consulting with various vets across the
country. But we welcome any advice or direction on how we can help
little Timmy.
