Lulu says THANK YOU !

Update July 22
Well, what can we say about our little Lulu... We have never
been able to get her mystery illness diagnosed, and after two terrible
bouts of
being very ill, she has been responding very well to her latest change
in diet
and medications. She has returned to her happy, springy self, and is
enjoying
playing like a ‘normal’ beagle with her new found sisters. She has been
healthy
coming on to a month now, and we hope that keeping a close eye on her
diet, and
the use of medication she will remain that way. She has even been able
to
maintain a healthy weight for a beagle her size, and meal times
continue to be
one of her favourite times of day.
After being in the care of her foster family for a couple of
months now she has become an important part of the pack, and they
cannot imagine
giving her up. Lulu will be adopted by the family and continue to
receive the
love and stability she so rightly deserves.
We wish to give a huge
THANK YOU to all of you that gave
financial and moral support to our little Lulu and are pleased to
inform you
that it has been, we believe, a life saver for Lulu. The support of our
beagle
community is very much appreciated and ‘heart-warming’.

Update
June 29
We have good news and
not so good news. Lulu has improved since she first took ill in
April. She has more good days then
not, but does take ill every now and again. The vets are still
puzzled at what may be ailing this young dog. Her foster Mom and
Dad continue to monitor her daily and provide her with all the love and
care she needs. Her progress is being monitored and we will keep
everyone posted.

At
the beginning of April 2008, little Lulu started out with some
diarrhoea, showing signs of pain and being very lethargic and had lost
a full kilogram from her 7 kilogram body. She was not her happy,
springy self. She has been taken back and forth to the veterinarian’s
and put through a battery of different tests throughout the month to
try and determine what is wrong. She has even had to be placed on
intravenous twice to combat dehydration from the constant
diarrhoea.
By
mid month Lulu’s health continued to deteriorate and she came down with
a high fever and indications that she was dealing some sort of internal
virus. She had to spend 4 days at a veterinary emergency hospital for
some constant care, pain medications, antibiotics, and ‘more tests’. To
date she has had 3 x-rays, 3 ultra sounds, numerous blood, urine, and
fecal matter tests, and has seen three separate veterinary specialists.
A
cause has yet to be determined, but her health and happiness are slowly
returning. She has been placed on a special diet, an antibiotic that
seems to be working, and been given lots of extra love and care. Her
weight is slowly returning to normal, as well as her daily energy
levels. Unfortunately all of this has come at a great cost (over $3700 to date), and it looks
as though her future will require more medical care and tests until a
definite prognosis can be found to help Lulu recover completely.
Lulu is
back in the care of Beagle Paws and her foster family has been taking
excellent care of her but the cost of medical treatment has become
overwhelming. Any help towards her vet care would be greatly
appreciated.
