Hayley's story

UPDATED PHOTO - Dec. 30th

Approximately one week ago Beagle Paws received a call about a beagle spotted on the Trans Canada Highway.  The dog was seen running in and out of traffic.  A couple of volunteers went to the area to try to catch the dog.  They were not successful.  Days went by of searching the area by our volunteers.  They could hear the dog howling and come very close to her at times.  However, she was very frightened and would run away each time they got near.

We decided to set up a "live trap" to try to capture her.  Again days went by and still she would not take the bait.  We then discovered that she was feeding off a Moose carcus in the area, which obviously meant that she wouldn't be interested in our dog kibble.

One of our volunteers decided to put everything that a beagle could not resist in food in the trap including bacon. And it worked !!!  We had her.

Now named "Hayley" this tired girl is on the road to recovery.

We would like to THANK the numbers of dedicated volunteers that searched for Hayley at all hours of the day and a big thanks to the hunters who also helped us search the area.

After her initial vet vist it seems that the majority of her problems have come from an ear infection. They base the severity of an ear infection as a grade 4 (from 1 to 4 scale with 4 being the worst) and hers is off the chart. The yeast infection has spread to her whole body, including her eyes. She has started on a series of medications to help her heal.

UPDATE: Hayley is doing great and her new medications have really helped her along, we ar hoping for a speedy recovery.  We would like to thank everyone who sent their wishes for Haley and those who have donated.

UPDATE: Dec. 20th - The medications have done their job and Hayley is on the road to full recovery.  She is now looking for her forever home.  She is approx. 7 years old and will be spayed in the New Year.
