As of May 2, 2012 the province of Newfoundland and Labrador has approved the revised regulations to accompany the new Animal Health and Protection Act. Under this new act people committing crimes against animals can face up to $50,000 in fines.
Of particular interest to Beagle Paws is the revised regulations under “Schedule B – Basic Standards of Dog Care”. In these new regulations it is clearly defined what are acceptable housing standards for outdoor dogs. Which means that setups like the one shown in this photo are no longer permitted.
As it stands right now Beagle Paws does not have any authority to enforce these regulations. However, your local SPCA or Municipal Council does. We encourage you to contact them to report any situations that find beagles living in conditions that are not acceptable according to the new regulations.
